Crate Training
Here at Redditch Dog Walking, we advocate and support the use of crates.
Crates provide a safe and secure den like space for your dog. If introduced correctly, dogs will see their crate/den as a positive space that belongs to them.
The Benefits
- It gives your dog a safe and secure place to go and rest and a place to go when they are feeling nervous or stressed.
- It aids in toilet training as dogs don’t usually mess in their own space.
- Protects your home and your dog from getting up to no good and chewing when you’re not around.
- If your dog ever needs to go to the vets for an operation, it will be less stressful for them when they are in their crate recovering post op.
- Crates make a car journey safer and easier for you to transport your dog around.
Top Tips
- Be consistent and persevere!
- Feed your dog in their crate
- Never use their crate as punishment
- Don’t leave your dog alone in their crate for too long. it is recommended your dog isn’t left alone for more than 4 hours
- Ensure you do not open the crate door if your dog is barking, whining and crying while in the crate. Wait until they’re quiet, reward their good behaviour and then let them out.
