Microchips
Since 2016, it has been a legal requirement for owners to microchip all dogs over the age of 8 weeks.
It is the responsibility of the owner to keep the details (address, contact number) up to date. This is done through your microchip provider – not your vet.
It’s also a legal requirement for every dog to wear a collar and tag whilst in public. The tag should have your name and contact details on. Remember to update these details with house moves and new numbers.
Our walkers can’t take your dog out without a tag – this can be attached to their collar or harness.

Putting your family name on your dogs ID tag and not their own name.
Simply put, if your dog goes missing, you are giving your dogs name away to thieves which will make it easier for them to bond with your beloved pet!
Using a family name will lead the dog to be more confused around whoever has taken them, lessening the chance of a bond being formed quickly.
If your dog goes missing…
- Alert the local dog warden/authority – they may have had them handed in
- Check with all local vets
- You may be covered under your insurance to offer a reward sum
