Getting a dog (or any other pet!) is a commitment for the LIFE of that animal. It should be a decision that has been made with your 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁! Being ready for a dog has a lot to think about.
Are you thinking of sharing your home with a four legged friend?
There is absolutely loads to consider when making this decision. People often rush into buying puppies or into rehoming dogs without really looking at the bigger picture and whether they’re ready for a dog.
Sadly, we see this a lot with all of the babies we have rehomed, and it breaks our hearts for the poor little souls. If only people spent some time researching before running into these decisions, the doggies we have to rehabilitate and rehome would quite often not be put into that situation.

Can you afford your new companion?
There are lots of costs associated with owning a dog. Make sure you budget for all the costs to get set up, as well as ongoing costs, such as insurance, vet bills, food and more!
Will your dog be left alone regularly?
Most dogs do not do well when left alone for more than a few hours. Make sure you have considered how they will be cared for when you are at work, out for the day, or on holiday.
Can you give your dog the exercise it needs & deserves
Your dog needs regular, high-quality exercise in order to stay happy and healthy. Make sure you have considered whether you have the time and energy to give your dog the exercise they need.
Is your home suitable for a dog?
Different dogs need different amounts of space to live in. Some will be content with living in a flat as long as they get the right amount of exercise, whereas others will need a large garden to run around in. if you live in rented or council accommodation, you need to get written permission from your landlord before getting a pet.
Have you researched the dog breed you want and understand their needs?
Different dog breeds will have different needs and personalities. Make sure you are fully informed about the breed before buying a puppy or adopting a dog – research online, talk to existing owners and meet dogs from the same breed.
